Male' Map

Male’ Map is a simple yet powerful utility for residents of the Greater Male’ Area in the Maldives. It provides a fast, offline-first, and privacy-respecting way to look up addresses and discover places. This was a collaborative project with AlfiSoft, who curated and provided the underlying map data.

Project Overview

First launched in 2015 and actively maintained since, Male’ Map was created to solve the challenge of navigating the dense urban environment of Male’ by providing a dedicated, easy-to-use address lookup system. The app was designed with a strong focus on user privacy, performing all searches locally on the device without sending any data to external servers.

Core Features

• Address & Place Lookup: Quickly find any registered address or place of interest within Male’, Hulhumale’, and Villingili.
• Offline First: The entire map and address database is stored on the device, making it fully functional without an internet connection.
• Privacy by Design: No user data, location, or search queries are ever collected or transmitted. All operations happen locally.
• Bookmarking: Users can save their frequently accessed locations for quick access.
• Native Performance: Built natively for both iOS and Android to ensure the best possible performance and user experience.

Collaboration with AlfiSoft

This project was a joint effort between Intellea and AlfiSoft. While Intellea (under the kudanai developer brand) handled the application design and development for both iOS and Android platforms, AlfiSoft was responsible for the critical task of collecting, verifying, and curating the comprehensive address and location data that powers the app.

Technical Implementation

• iOS: Native application written in Swift.
• Android: Native application written in Kotlin.
• Data: Utilizes a local, on-device database to store and query map data provided by AlfiSoft.

Impact

With thousands of downloads across both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, Male’ Map has become a widely used utility for locals. Its speed, simplicity, and strong privacy stance have made it a trusted tool for delivery services, couriers, and residents navigating the city. The project serves as a great example of a successful collaboration to solve a common, everyday problem for the community.
